Branchburg Animal Hospital is Dedicated to Providing Our Clients & Patients with Personalized Care! 

We may be a small practice, but we have a great staff of qualified & experienced individuals who are here to meet the needs of our clients & patients. We have worked hard since opening in 1996 to establish a reputation of being caring & compassionate. Our client care coordinators have many years of experience in customer service and office management.  Our technical team is second to none, and the next best thing to the doctor! Our team comes to work every day to help provide our clients with the proper education so that we can work together to provide their pets with the best care possible.


VETERINARIANS

  • Dr.
    Karin I Derfuss
    Veterinarian, DVM, CVA

    Dr. Derfuss grew up in New Jersey. She received her B.S. in Animal Science in 1982 from Cook College at Rutgers University, and her DVM in 1987 from Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine. In 2007 she became IVAS certified in veterinary acupuncture, and continues her studies in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, including Chinese herbal therapy & food therapy. Dr. Derfuss is currently a Masters degree candidate in TCVM with the Chi Institute and is studying Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome (commonly known as dementia or 'doggy Alzheimer's') in geriatric dogs and cats.

    She founded Branchburg Animal Hospital in 1996. Dr. Derfuss enjoys challenging surgical and medical cases, and will explore all avenues of integrative veterinary medicine to take care of your pet's medical needs. She was the volunteer veterinarian and a member of the board of trustees for the Plainfield Area Humane Society for 17 years and is passionate about the plight of pit bulls and animal abuse and neglect. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her daughter, reading (especially on the beach), skiing, traveling, cooking and spending time with her dogs, Zucc and Mack.

    Amy Villano
    Veterinarian, VMD

    Dr. Villano was born and raised in central New Jersey. After receiving an undergraduate degree in Animal Science at Cook College, Rutgers University, she attended the University of Pennsylvania for veterinary school. Since receiving her veterinary medical degree, Dr. Villano worked as an associate veterinarian in small animal practices in Edison, Hillsborough, and Princeton. She finds small animal practice and rescue work very fulfilling. She enjoys spending free time with her friends and family, including her husband and her dog, Violet. She also likes to ski, go to the beach, travel, and watch movies.

    Brian Colquhoun
    Veterinarian, DVM, MS, CVA

    A native of northern New Jersey, Dr. Colquhoun has been in practice for 28 years. After obtaining a Master's Degree in Microbiology from the University of South Florida, he attended veterinary school at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. He became IVAS certified in veterinary acupuncture in 1996. Dr. Colquhoun has practiced conventional western medicine and TCVM in West Orange and Roxbury, and joined BAH in February 2017.

    His medical interests include acupuncture and herbal medicine, regenerative medicine, and nutrition. When not treating animals, he enjoys reading, writing, woodworking, watching his daughters' sporting events and hanging out with his dogs, Sophie and Jeter.

BAH TEAM MEMBERS

  • Janice
    Client Care Coordinator - Team Leader

    Janice has an A.A.S. degree in Office Administration. Janice joined our team in 2005. She has many years (over 25) of volunteer animal welfare experience and enjoys animal communication, meditation, gardening, reading and expanding her knowledge of essential oils. Janice and her husband have three adult children; a daughter, twin sons, and a new grandson!

  • Terri
    Client Care Coordinator

    Terri retired from the US Postal Service and joined the BAH team in 2010 after a serendipitous visit as a client. She has worked here part time ever since! Terri enjoys reading and loves going to concerts. She is passionate about the environment and climate change and never misses a chance to encourage even the smallest effort to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Terri is our recycling queen! She shares her home with a cat Luna, and a dog Pierce. Her backyard is home to a few chickens and 2 goats.

  • Angela
    Client Care Coordinator

    Angela joined the BAH team in the summer of 2017. Before taking on the position of Client Care Coordinator, Angela worked in multiple emergency and referral hospitals throughout NJ as a veterinary technician for 23 years. She is enjoying the change of pace, and enjoying assisting clients in a more personal fashion. Angela is also a certified human phlebotomist. In her spare time, Angela enjoys spending time with her husband, 2 dogs and 2 cats. She also enjoys live music, reading and travel.

  • Heather
    Client Care Coordinator

    Heather joined our team in September 2017. She has been working in the veterinary field since 2001 and has such a love and dedication to animals. She is a graduate of Central Career School and is a certified Medical Assistant. In her spare time she enjoys crocheting, reading and spending time with the 2 children, her bunny Dobby and her dog Benny!

  • Cheryl
    Bookeeper & Accounting

    Cheryl has been Branchburg Animal Hospital's bookkeeper for 6 years and has 40 years of experience in the field. She was formerly Controller of a multi-million dollar international firm. She enjoys quilting, gardening, horseback riding and training her Australian Shepherds in Nosework and Agility.
